Local government should be responsive to citizen needs and transparent as to what they do on behalf of the taxpayers. All too often, they make it difficult to find information and act in a manner that indicates that the people should be working for them. This needs to change!
These offices ore often passed from parents to children in which these officials collect paychecks for little, if any, work. Many times they collect state pensions as a result. It makes no sense for entities that provide little to no true public service should continue to exists when their few functions can be transferred to other existing government entities... often with the same mandates.
John Bambenek is a former candidate for state and federal office and served on a local school board, the Illinois Board of Higher Education, and the Illinois Community College Board. For decades he has been on the forefront advocating for government reform and transparency.
